Figtree_1.3.1 is a cross‑platform desktop application for visualizing, editing, and annotating phylogenetic trees. Designed for quick exploration and for producing publication‑quality figures, it reads common tree formats and lets you interactively adjust layout, appearance, and metadata-driven annotations.

Key features:

  • Imports standard tree formats (e.g., Newick and Nexus with annotations)
  • Interactive tree manipulation: reroot, rotate, ladderize, collapse or expand clades, and prune taxa
  • Multiple layouts and scales: rectangular, radial/circular views, branch‑length scaling, and time axes
  • Annotation and styling: label nodes/branches, display support values, color by metadata, add legends, and control fonts, line widths, and node shapes
  • Metadata awareness: reads attributes embedded in files (e.g., from BEAST/MrBayes) for rule‑based coloring and labeling
  • Export options: saves publication‑quality graphics (PDF, SVG, PNG) for figures and reports
  • Cross‑platform via Java, suitable for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Notes:

  • Figtree_1.3.1 is an older release; newer versions may offer additional features and improved compatibility.
  • Because it is Java‑based, it may require an appropriate Java Runtime Environment to run.

Figtree_1.3.1 is developed by Institute of Evolutionary Biology. The most popular version of this product among our users is 1.3. The name of the program executable file is FigTree v1.3.1.exe.
